Family Sponsorship

Sponsoring Spouse, Partner, Dependent Child 

Eligibility of Sponsor 

​

  • At least 18 years old

  • Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada living in Canada (For Canadian citizen living outside Canada, must prove that you plan to live in Canada when the sponsored person become permanent residents. Permanent resident living outside Canada cannot sponsor)

  • Not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability

  • Provide for the basic needs of sponsored person

Spouse ​

  • legally married

  • At least 18 years old

​

​

Common-law partner

​

  • Not legally married to you

  • At least 18 years old

  • Has been living together for at least 12 consecutive months

Dependent Child​

​

  • Under 22 years old AND don’t have a spouse or common law partner

 

   OR

​

  • 22 years old or older AND

  • Unable to financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition AND have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22

Sponsoring Parents and Grandparents

Eligibility of Sponsor 

​

  • At least 18 years old

  • Currently living in Canada

  • Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada

  • Meet income requirement for 3 years 

  • Receive invitation to sponsor
